The history of Blaupunkt radio dates back to 1932, when the company, then called Ideal Werke, at the radio fair in Berlin showed the first car radio produced in Europe. The receiver was large, so it had to be mounted at the bottom of the cabin and was controlled by a cable remote control screwed to the steering column. It had the symbol Autosuper AS5. It weighed about 12 kg and cost 320 DM, i.e. 1/5 of the value of the car. It was difficult to use because it consumed large amounts of electricity and was too delicate for the roads of the time. Only 400 copies were sold. The next models from Ideal Werke were more and more modern along with the progressive development of electronics and the progressive miniaturization of electron tubes.
In 1952, the company produced the first car radio with ultra-short wave FM under the name Blaupunkt Frankfurt. This model became the company's basic old-timer, famous to this day, having buttons on the front panel that allow you to switch between previously set broadcasting stations.
In 1969, the world's first Blaupunkt car stereo radio was shown. The newest models have increasingly more perfect technical solutions. The progress of radio electronics continues to this day and the car radio has become a part of the on-board computer.
The establishment of the Becker company in the post-war years and subsequent activities resulted in a rapid development of panel design radio receivers. The first series of their car radios under the common name Solitude initiated a new trend in designing radio boxes. Mercedes proposed Eng. Becker cooperated and from then on, exclusive cars with a star on the hood were factory-installed Becker Solitude, Becker Mexico, Becker Avus, Becker Monaco, Becker Monza, Becker Europa and Becker Monte Carlo. At the same time, intensive construction and design work gave Becker a dominant position among car radio manufacturers.
The company's flagship model was the Becker Mexico, which was the first in the world to offer automatic frequency selection of radio stations and a beautifully made chrome front panel. This car radio was even installed in the Mercedes 300 Adenauer.
